Activities Conducted

With the aim of understanding the level of understanding on the environment issues among children, Madhyam conducted a Painting competition for Corporation school children of Bibvevadi area. Introductory talks were given on the hazards of environment to the children prior to the competition. Many children participated and the general response and enthusiasm was very encouraging. Five best paintings were selected and prizes to winners were distributed.

The need assessment workshop was conducted where the participants were the teachers. This activity was done prior to the designing of the project. Majority of the teachers were of the opinion that the text should be made very light and interesting because the children are already over loaded with so many subjects. Their experience was that the visual impact is long lasting therefore slide shows; documentaries films should be shown to the children in environment education classes for better results.


Details of activities planned and conducted are

  • Education and Awareness : Informal education programme on environment  issues in schools addressing local and global problems, health, sanitation and good practices.
  • Madhyam with their expertise and infrastructure help of Vigyan Ashram plans to begin a new course from the start of the academic year 2004, to add to the vocational courses that Vigyan Ashram conducts for the marginalized students. Madhyam is introducing two years Fashion Designing course which will eventually be conducted in various institute of Vigyan Ashram. The course will include designing, manufacturing and marketing
    of garments for the higher middle class segment.
    Creation of special syllabus for the target group, training of the trainers to target more students from different areas, field visits for practical knowledge would be carried out.
  • Exhibitions / Competitions : Exhibition of narrative and illustrative paintings, which would have environmental theme and holding painting competitions. Discussions, debates and lectures will be arranged during the exhibitions to generate additional messages and actions
  • Bio- shops : Bio product shops that will serve as outlets for bio-products, especially for children   with library and computers to view environment related books, journals and websites. Open a small café sittings for exchanging thoughts, voicing concerns and  giving feed backs. Other outlets for bio-products will also be made available as an extension of the existing shops.
  • Organic agriculture : Help farmers to use organic methods of cultivation and campaign about the benefits of using them. Assist them to bring these products in the market and encourage consumers to change their preferences.
